This low-growing, woody, evergreen shrub has long been cultivated in the Mediterranean region, particularly in Spain and France. The essential oil extracted from Spanish sage leaves and stems by steam distillation has a camphoraceous, herbaceous, sage-like aroma. The herbaceous, refreshing aroma of Spanish sage has an uplifting and calming effect. Due to its primary constituents, camphor and 1,8-cineole, this essential oil can be ideal for use after exercise or can also play a role in deep tissue massage.
